Importance of Keeping a Lid on it

Research by RPC Sæplast has confirmed that the insulation performance of its containers can be further enhanced through the adoption of lids.

A study carried out by Dr Björn Margeirsson, Research Manager at RPC Sæplast and Assistant Professor at the University of Iceland, on the insulation capabilities of the company’s 460 PE, 460 PUR, 660 PE, 660 PUR and 660 Nordic found that containers with lids on saw a decrease in their daily ice requirement of around 33-50%.

“It is well-known that maintaining perfect temperature control in the chill chain for perishable fresh foods can be a difficult task, and that insulated food packaging can therefore play an important role in providing the necessary protection to prolong storage life, particularly in high temperature conditions,” explains Dr Margeirsson.

“While our Sæplast containers already have a strong reputation for their strength, durability and insulation, what this study has confirmed is that the use of lids is a vital factor in maximising their performance and therby improving food safety and shelf life.”
