iTub as, the fishing container rental service of which RPC Sæplast is the major shareholder, has reached agreement with Danish company Dansk Karudlejning to purchase its tub rental business. The deal will support iTUB’s objective of continuing to expand its operations throughout Europe.
Established in 2010 by RPC Sæplast and three Norwegian seafood companies – Aker Seafoods, Nergard and Batsfjordbruket – iTUB provides a fish tub leasing service to fishing and processing companies. Initially serving the Norwegian fishing industry, mainly trawler companies, iTUB has grown steadily in recent years with demand for its services also coming from fishing operators and processors. As a result, the company today has 20,000 tubs in circulation, and its customer base is increasingly widening to other parts of Europe.
iTub offers a fl exible service, supplying from tens and hundreds, to thousands of tubs depending on each individual customer’s requirements. As well as the tub rental, a key part of the operation is the distribution system, with iTub handling the collection of tubs from the fish buyers, cleaning and returning them for re-use. To facilitate this operation, the company has distribution and washing stations in the UK, France and Denmark.
Customers can choose a simple rental contract for the supply of a number of tubs for a set period, or an enhanced service option which includes the management of the collection of empty tubs and ensuring that the customer always has the agreed number of tubs available at the distribution centre.
iTub tubs are robust, easy to handle and ideal for use in the fi sheries and food processing industries. Constructed from EU and FDA-approved food-grade polyethylene, they combine a hygienic design with excellent stacking strength, incorporating rounded edges and surfaces for optimum wash-down, and offering access from all sides for easy handling on land and sea. The tubs deliver major time savings and efficiencies, while less direct handling improves product quality.
“Our service has proved extremely popular and we seegreat opportunities to further extend our offering toother countries,” explains iTUB managing director HilmarGudmundsson. “The acquisition of Dansk Karudlejning isan important step in the continued development of ourdistribution and transport network.”
